Are You Squishing My Peach?
My blog title today is courtesy of my son, Daredevil, who asked me this when we were grocery shopping the other day. For some reason it struck my funny bone but it also got me thinking…yes, always a bad thing, I know.
My writing is like that peach sometimes. Ripe, full of promise, something that I just can’t wait to dig into day after day. Other times, outside pressure gets to me. Whether it is my own insecurities, a critique from a CP that is filled with the dreaded red pen (even when you know that CP is right in their assessment, sometimes the fact that you’ve failed to nail that chapter can sting), or even a rejection letter from an agent or publisher. When those things come into play, well….it kind of squishes my peach.
Now, I’ve been feeling pretty good about my writing lately. What I haven’t been feeling good about is my lack of time to dig into the last of my revisions. I’m close. I’ve got the major “stuff” revised. All that’s left is to flesh out the last 2 or 3 chapters and complete the rest of the chapters that mostly need the minor line editing/sensory changes.
In my perfect world, I’d have the entire day to hole up in my office and finish these to my satisfaction. But, life has been hectic, and chaotic, and stressful lately. Which is just majorly squishin’ my peach!
So, now I want to know….what is squishing your peach these days?
Double Tagged!
I was tagged by both Deb and Farrah and I’m FINALLY getting a chance to sit down and participate.
Here are the rules for the Eight Random Things post:
1. Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about herself.
2. People who are tagged write a post about their own eight random things and post the rules.
3. At the end of the blog, the person has to tag eight people and post their names.
4. Don’t forget to leave them a comment and tell them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.
EIGHT RANDOM THINGS ABOUT MOI:
1. I have a Bachelor’s degree in the Chemical Sciences. What does it say about me that I’d rather be writing? In my next book I’ll be combining the two as my heroine is a scientist.
2. I know how to tap dance. Yes, I’ve had an obsession with musical theater for many, many years and in my youth often thought that maybe I should run away to Broadway.
3. I hate apples. I can drink the juice, I can eat apple pie, but I hate, hate, hate, biting into an apple. (It must be a texture thing). This fact continually irritates my husband for some reason and he retaliates by constantly trying to push apples on me.
4. I make excellent chocolate chip cookies.
5. I’m extremely shy in big groups…so if you see me somewhere looking like a major wallflower, take pity on me and come up to
say hello.
6. (I’m not at eight yet? This is so tough for me…does this mean I’m not interesting?) Okay. Number 6. I’m apparently a very boring person.
7. I want to get my haircut, but fear of looking like Britney Spears (post shaved head) keeps me from making the appointment.
8. I don’t like walking around barefoot (sans socks). It feels weird on my feet.
Okay…since I’ve waited so long to get to this, I’m going to forget about tagging anyone. I’m sure you’ve all already done it!
